Dear Parents, I am very pleased to be here as the new principal of the SeDoMoCha Elementary School and the Monson Elementary School. I look forward to a great school year. I hope we share the belief that your children should have a wonderful school experience and by working together, we will make that happen. I think it is important to share some of my educational philosophies with you just as I have shared them with the staff. After having been in education for well over thirty years, I have found that schools really only need three rules. If we all observe these rules, students, parents, teachers, and myself, we will have a very productive year. My rules are simple: 1) Respect; 2) Learning should be Fun; and 3) Equity for All. First, if we all respect each other, then students will do their homework and turn it in when it is due. It means that teachers won’t assign homework on a night such as Halloween. It means that parents will return school forms when we need them. It means that I will keep the parents fully informed, on a timely basis, of all key events occurring affecting their children’s day at school. With this sort of mutual respect prevalent at school, the teachers can make learning fun, rule number 2, and everyone will be treated with the fairness they deserve, rule number 3. I believe that if we have this kind of school environment, then we can teach our children anything. If children want to come to school, then they will get the most out of it. In the end, the children will leave the elementary school best prepared to enter the middle school world and be fully prepared to meet its challenges successfully. Because there are many details to which children, parents, and teachers will have to refer throughout the year, I’d ask you to keep your copy of the student handbook handy. As other events occur, we will send home newsletters and/or memos. We want every parent to fully understand his/her child’s school experience, and I encourage you to call or stop by should you ever have any questions or concerns. I am excited about starting our new school year, and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Sincerely yours in education, Wilma T. Lombardi, Principal
